Holy Saturday helps us see the reality of death. Yet the Great Vigil reminds us that while death will have a temporary hold on us, we will rise in Glory with Christ by virtue of our baptism.

The only way to Easter is to “go to the cross.” We cannot have the resurrection without the death of Jesus. Join me in praying the stations of the cross as they are depicted by the great artists and paintings of our Christian tradition.

Footwashing, in whatever modern form it takes now, remains the sign of service and care, of compassion and comforting others. That is what Christ calls us to do — not once a year on Maundy Thursday, but every day.
